Daily Dose of Awesome - How Pilates Heals & Creates Change

I'm back and we return to some form of normality or we call it the new normal now in Level 2.5.

As Aucklanders, we can freely move with masks and social distancing in public spaces and a return back to the studio. One thing that has kept my sanity and many of my clients I'm sure are the benefits drawn from Pilates daily.

As Joseph Pilates once said "Change happens through movement and movement heals"

I couldn't agree more and today I'm just going to take a few moments to chat about how Pilates heals and creates change and how it is a vital element in your health and wellbeing tool kit to take with you. Here are three health benefits and I will address more in further blogs.

*Pilates channels the breath through your diaphragm. Diaphragmatic Breathing is deep-belly breathing where we bring the breath all the way into the body allowing the belly to expand with the inhale and deflate with the exhale. This type of breathing is internal cleansing for your body.

*Pilates allows for flexibility throughout your spine. One of the great benefits of the Pilates method of exercise is that it is designed to promote a healthy, strong, flexible spine. In Pilates, the core muscles of the back and abdomen are trained to provide strength and flexibility for the spine. With the overall intention being to keep the spine long, decompressed, and protected.

*Pilates is a mind body workout. Within Pilates there are six principles - integrating the mind to the body. Centering, Concentration, Control, Precision, Breath & Flow are infused into each exercise. Pilates really assists in building a healthy mind and a healthy body in a very controlled way.

People often ask me why are you so calm and centered. My answer is Pilates xx.
